What is IRS Form 2290?
IRS Form 2290 is used to calculate and pay the Heavy Highway Vehicle Use Tax (HVUT) on commercial vehicles operating on public highways with a taxable gross weight of 55,000 pounds or more.
Who must file Form 2290?
Anyone who registers a heavy highway motor vehicle in their name with a taxable gross weight of 55,000 pounds or more must file Form 2290. This includes individuals, LLCs, corporations, and partnerships.
What is the deadline to file Form 2290?
The annual tax period runs from July 1 through June 30 of the following year. The annual renewal deadline is August 31. For newly acquired vehicles, you must file by the last day of the month following the month the vehicle was first used on public highways.

What is a stamped Schedule 1?
Schedule 1 is the official IRS receipt proving you have reported and paid your HVUT. State DMVs require a copy of the stamped Schedule 1 to register your vehicle or renew your apportioned plates (IRP).
How fast will I get my Schedule 1?

Can I file without an EIN?
No, the IRS requires a valid Employer Identification Number (EIN) to file Form 2290. You cannot use a Social Security Number. If you just applied for an EIN, it may take 10-15 days for IRS systems to update before you can e-file.
