Start E-FilingInternational builds Class 8 trucks for both long haul and heavy vocational work, from the aerodynamic LT on the highway to the severe duty HX on the job site. Both file the Heavy Vehicle Use Tax, and filing is quick once you know your weight category.
Do International tractors file Form 2290?
Yes. An International LT pulling a loaded trailer, or a heavy HX vocational truck, has a taxable gross weight well over the 55,000 pound threshold, so it files Form 2290 each tax period. The body style does not change the answer, the weight does, and these trucks are built to run heavy.
Weight category by configuration
Taxable gross weight adds the truck, the trailer it customarily pulls, and the maximum load. A loaded International combination typically reaches the top IRS weight category and its full annual tax. A highway LT and a severe duty HX carry different empty weights, but once both are loaded they usually land in the same top bracket. Confirm yours with the finder below.
International's other tractors file the same way. The classic LoneStar is a long haul highway truck and the RH is a regional hauler, and both clear the 55,000 pound line when coupled to a loaded trailer. As always, the weight decides the category rather than the model name.
