Consulics charges one flat $49.50 service fee to e-file Form 2290 for 1 to 24 trucks on one return. At 24 trucks, that averages about $2.06 per truck. The federal Heavy Vehicle Use Tax is separate and is paid to the IRS.
The fee is per return, not per truck, so the average falls as you add trucks to the same return. This guide shows the numbers at each fleet size and what can change them.

How much does it cost to file a 2290?
Filing Form 2290 has two separate costs: the federal Heavy Vehicle Use Tax paid to the IRS, and the service fee paid to your e-file provider. At Consulics the service fee is a flat $49.50 for 1 to 24 trucks on one return. The tax depends on taxable gross weight and the month the truck was first used.
A full year of tax runs from $100 to $550 per truck for most vehicles at 55,000 pounds or more. Our HVUT calculator estimates the tax for your trucks.
What is the 2290 cost per truck?
With Consulics, the service fee averages $49.50 per truck for 1 truck, $9.90 for 5 trucks, $4.95 for 10 trucks and about $2.06 at 24 trucks on one return. The federal tax is added on top and is the same wherever you file.
Here is a full example. A return with 24 trucks in Category V, first used in July, owes 13,200 dollars in federal tax at 550 dollars per truck. The Consulics service fee on that return is $49.50, about $2.06 per truck on average.
What is the 2290 e-file price for a small fleet?
For a small fleet of 2 to 24 trucks, the Consulics price is the same flat $49.50 for one return. A 10 truck fleet averages $4.95 per truck, and a 24 truck fleet averages about $2.06 per truck. The federal tax is separate.
Does Consulics charge per truck?
No. From 1 to 24 trucks on one return, the service fee stays $49.50. The per truck figures in this guide are averages, not separate charges.
What changes your average
The $2.06 average applies when 24 trucks go on one return. A few things can split your trucks across returns, and each return has its own fee.
- First used month: trucks first used in different months are usually reported on separate returns. Fleets renewing together in July can often file them all at once.
- Different EINs: each business files under its own EIN, so two companies mean two returns.
- Fewer trucks: the fewer trucks on the return, the higher the average. One truck pays the full $49.50.
What the $49.50 includes
The flat service fee covers filing and fixes on returns filed with Consulics.
- Electronic Form 2290 filing for 1 to 24 trucks
- Free VIN corrections
- Free re-filing if the IRS rejects your return
- Your stamped Schedule 1 to download after the IRS accepts the return

Start Your Form 2290How to compare Form 2290 prices
Providers price in different ways, so compare the total at your own truck count rather than an advertised starting price.
- Work out the total for the number of trucks you actually file.
- Check whether VIN corrections and re-filing a rejected return cost extra.
- Confirm the final price at checkout before you pay.
- Confirm the provider appears on the IRS list of authorized e-file providers.
A flat fee helps most when you file several trucks together. If you file a single truck, compare the full price the same way.
